Elective Withdrawal for Undergraduates

Undergraduates enrolled in degree programs are eligible to withdraw from a limited number of classes without dean's approval and at the student's own discretion. Students may process a maximum of three such elective withdrawals during their entire undergraduate career at Mason. The three classes may have any number of credits. The academic calendar for each semester will include an open withdrawal period beginning the day following the last day to drop the class and extending through the ninth week. For classes shorter than a semester (14 weeks), the period will be set in proportion to the length of the class. This policybegan in the fall 2005 semester; procedures are published in the Schedule of Classes.

Important  Changes for the BSIT

Starting in Fall 2007, IT majors are required to take MSOM 300 and MSOM 301.  Students in previous catalogs are not affected and are required to take MSOM 302 and MSOM 303.  Please check the advising sheet for your catalog year to see what courses are required for you.

IT 250/STAT 250 will no longer be cross-listed.  The BSIT degree will require STAT 250* in place of IT 250.
*Effective Fall 2008, MTH 241 from VCCS will no longer be accepted as a substitute for STAT 250.

The CLEP is accepted by GMU for IT 103.  However, it does not give credit for the ethics component.  To complete the IT general education requirement, you will need to take a 1-credit course in "Information Technology Ethics", such as CS 105 or PHIL 112.  There are other courses which fulfill the ethics component.  Please check the list under approved General Education Courses.

NOTE:  Student in the B.S. in IT program DO NOT have to take an additional ethics course as IT 304 fulfills the ethics requirement for the B.S. in IT degree.
